I was supposed to commit some art today, but I’m feeling bad. When I went on vacation I took a break from watching my diet and whatnot so carefully, because – you know – VACATION.  Alas, I’ve not re-established discipline afterwords like I was supposed to and so I have been eating and drinking things I’m not supposed to (or at least not nearly so much) and now I’m being forcefully reminded as to why I should be more careful about such things.  I can’t hardly even concentrate so no art today.  Lame post I know.  Sorry.  Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow after a day of getting back on track and a good night’s sleep.

Here watch this.  It has a pretty girl who gets chased by low budget storm troopers who can be incapacitated by trance music.  Enjoy!

Hola mi amigos et amigas! It’s been a while since I rapped at ya so let’s get to it!

Things are going really well in this department. As of last Saturday I’ve dropped a total of 75 pounds since I started in late June, which is pretty good I think. I still have a long ways to go but I’m definitely well on my way. It’s funny, but you’d think that after getting rid of that much weight I would feel lighter or something. You know, like as if I were on the moon. It doesn’t though, which is a little disappointing frankly. Oh well.

I just had a three-month check up last week and it went really well. We reviewed my latest blood sugar readings on my tester (I forgot my graph dangit!!) and the doctor said I was doing very well and can pull back to testing my blood sugars to three days per week. I’ve decided to go every other day just make things easier and keep my graph nice and smooth. As part of my checkup I also had some blood drawn for some tests and I just heard back today that my fasting blood sugar levels are officially back to the normal range as are my cholesterol levels! I can stop taking my cholesterol medication now! WHOOT! I plan to celebrate with a grapefruit after work tonight. (Grapefruit is forbidden when on that particular medication so I actually am pretty excited about this.) 😀

Unfortunately my visit did not result in entirely undiluted good news. I’ve had a bit of pain off and on in my left shoulder for several months now and after wiggling my arm around a bit the doctor informed me that I have a bit of arthritis there. I’ve been holding off on doing very much upper-body exercise in an effort to let this problem “heal” but that’s not going to happen. I’ll just have to learn how to be careful with it I guess.

That’s it for now, but I plan to get back to regular posting so check back soon!

Just a quick note about how it’s going. This last week has been really pretty good! As you can see levels have been entirely in the “Normal” range which is really gratifying. Aside from the uptick on the 13th the trend is still going down too.  To be honest I’m not entirely certain what to make of the last couple days though.  For instance today’s first read was around 11:15 am, well after breakfast and yet it is the lowest I’ve measured yet.  The second read was at 2:00 pm, and so about an hour and a half after lunch and it only moved up about 19 points.  I was told expect a 30 – 40 point movement upward though.  Something to keep an eye on anyway.

Jeepers.  I didn’t really mean to be away this long but real life intrudes.

Anyway, I implemented a  lot of changes in my life since Diabeetus Day two weeks ago and there are already many noticable improvements.  I now test my blood glucose levels twice per day and, being the data guy that I am, I of course record the results in a spreadsheet.  And numbers in a spreadsheet just beg to be graphed.  Check it out:

BGGraph

In less than two weeks I have my numbers in the normal range. This happened a lot sooner than I expected but it’s definitely welcome. Similarly my blood pressure numbers have returned from “Stage 1 Hypertension” levels to those approaching normal as well. Now the goal is to keep them there.

Diabeetus

I got the call today (that was fast!) and the test confirmed that I have the Diabeetus.  Also high cholesterol.  But no thyroid issues!  But I do have high blood pressure on top of the other stuff.  So, I’m quite the mess healthwise.  But now I have medicines, blood sugar tester thingy, and orders to “eat healthy & exercise”.  I guess we’ll see how that goes.
