Looky What I Got

This here is  a Lichtenberg figure that blogbuddy Lemur King sent me.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  Basically they take a particle accelerator and shoot electrons at this block of acrylic which then builds up an electric charge until it’s strong enough to overcome the natural electric resistance in the acrylic and POW!  It discharges and makes all these cool fractures inside the block.  Then you set it on top a nifty base with pretty blue LEDs and there ya go.  Thank you Lemur King!  This is an awesome present!

Quickee Movie Reviews December 22, 2010

I’m on vacation all this week so I went to see a couple of movies.   First up was TRON: Legacy.  Of course we’ve been looking at the trailers for months now and I really wanted to see this one.  It seems to be getting mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it.  The visuals were gorgeous.

The graphics weren’t bad either!  Seriously you get to watch her running around in this really tight suit for most of the pic.  I think we’ll be seeing a lot more of Olivia Wilde in the future.  I went full boat and saw it in IMAX 3D and thought it was well worth the price.  My main criticism for this picture is that for a Tron movie, Tron himself isn’t much in it.  The music was incredible and I bought the soundtrack off of Amazon.com the instant I got home and now it’s here!  I suspect that many, many people will become familiar with the work of Daft Punk.

Yesterday I went to see Black Swan while the maids were cleaning up the house.  Black Swan is a psychological thriller about ballet starring Natalie Portman.  And yes, it features a lesbian love scene with her and Mila Kunis.  And yes, that was a factor in deciding to see this particular movie.  That, and it was coming on at the right time when I hit the theater.  And no, you don’t really get to see anything.  Which may be a factor for you in deciding to see this movie.  I won’t say too much about it for fear of spoilers, but basically Natalie’s character has a very difficult time handling the pressure of performing a dual nature character in an upcoming big production of Swan Lake.  It was a bit slow in it’s pacing, but overall I did like it.  It was creepy and it kept you guessing all the way to the end.  Not everyone “got” this movie though I could tell.  One group left the theater laughing and one guy in the group expressed it as “What? The? Hell?”

I went Christmas shopping out in the actual public rather than on-line today.   Every year I have to make at least one trip to the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace.  I’m shopping for my mother and she’s very difficult to buy things for.  The first shop to catch my eye was Swarovski Crystal where they have sparkly stuff.  Check out the crystal flowers:

According to my calculations it’s a mere eleven days away so it’s time to post one of my most favorite Christmas songs ever.  It gives me a warm fuzzy every time I watch this.  Enjoy!

Oh, and not entirely safe for work I guess – there are dancing half-naked midgets at the end.

I haven’t really even started yet and boy is it coming up fast.  Fortunately my boss let me take today off when I asked him yesterday (a week’s notice is customary).  Unfortunately I don’t know what to get anyone.  I did the scarf for my sister so she’s ok, but I have no idea what to get her husband.  We haven’t hung around much so I don’t know him very well.  Nor do I know what my brother would like.  I sent them both very nice knives last year which went over well, but I can’t do that again.  And then there’s some people at work.  No ideas.  Then there’s the Parental Units – again not a fargin’ clue.  I was going to buy them the S&W revolver, but I got a call from Mom this week and it seems Dad wants to shop for a gun this week!  Suddenly he’s all hot to get one for some reason.  Apparently he’s VERY interested in a Beretta 9mm.  So.

I have a bumper crop of catalogs to go through and hopefully I’ll get some ideas from those.  Of course I’m open for suggestions too.  I’m looking at the 200 dollar range for my brother & brother-in-law, about a grand total for the Parental Units, 20-30 for cow-irkers.  I’m also sending a tip to the ladies who clean my house.  I’ve noted which ones the service sends here and I see the same three names on the sheet they leave behind.  Does $50 each sound good? As the regular readers around here know, I’m certainly no stranger to spending money but I’m not so good at figuring out what other people like.

***UPDATE***
I remembered that I bought the Parental Units a very nice bottle of champagne last year that they REALLY liked, so I dropped by the store I got it at last year. Alas, they no longer carry it. So I went up another notch and got a bottle of Dom Perignon (vintage 2000). 🙂
In other news, if you’re ever here in the Las Vegas area during the Christmas Holiday season be sure to head over to Ethel M’s cactus gardens one evening.  It really is quite spectacular.

Christmas Cacti!

No, this isn’t my picture. I totally swiped it from the site at that link. My pictures didn’t turn out so well.

Pandora occasionally kicks this one up and I always enjoy it.  It’s very laid back and somewhat similar to Zero 7.  Enjoy!

The fine proprietors over at Head ‘n Home Hats are doing a Christmas special of buy 2, and get a third one free!  That’s a fabulous deal and I’m extremely well pleased with the quality of the hats I bought from them previously.  It’s not advertised on the site, but you order three hats and enter the special code XMASHATS and they’ll take off the price of the least expensive one.  They even throw in the shipping for that hat too!

Woot!  Hat yorling ahead!

***Update***

I just saw this one and HAD to post the pic:

Pimp hat? What do you mean?

OMG! It’s FAAAAAABULOUS!
