Hats Are Here! October 8, 2010

Man I’m Getting Old

Hat with crow’s feet.  Nrrk.

This isn’t a great picture, but I promised to put something up when they came in.  This is the suede one.  In this light you really can’t tell the difference between this and the other one except it’s brim is still straight.  I shaped this on a little bit to make it fit better.

The hats are very nice quality and they fit great.  One annoyance is that the hat bands seemed to be glued on, which means it’s going to be a pain to take them off if I find ones that I like better.

Gotta say, I’m not a real big fan of these goggles.  They’re okay, but they’re not the greatest quality and all too modern to look  Steampunkery.  Particularly when compared to these.

Yeah, but those goggles you linked to are like Bugatti Veyrons when the most any of us little people can get are VW Jettas or a BMW of some sort if we eat ramen noodles a lot instead of food. (worse yet, Taco Bell, which is cheaper than food – and I’m addicted to it, btw)

I like the hats. You keep the whole leather ensemble up and it’s going to be necessary for you to find a steampunk expo of some sort.

Oh.
Hell.
Yes!

Mitchell, your smile says it all!

The goggles look fine and easily pass for steampunk, but seem … over-machined for the “real” look. Yes, the ones you linked to might look more genuine.

Ya might check the glue on that hatband. Hotglue can be easily re-hotted and removed at no risk to the hat. Lots of places use hotglue in assembly nowadays. Worth a minute of investigation.

Where’s the coat?

Could be water soluble glue as well, since it’s on suede.

Verra cool hat, Mitch. You need to use it for your avatar!!!

I get the distinct feeling he’s going a-yorling for them Bugatti goggles.

Thanks y’all! I did check the hat band a bit more closely after posting and it does seem to be a bit like rubber cement that’s fairly easy to peel off, so no real worries about that after all.

Good thing we were here for ya on that glue! *McGoo harrumphs importantly*

You have got to find an occasion to wear that hat & goggles in public. Now what reason could we contrive in October ….?
