Bye Bye Netflix September 23, 2010

So, the CEO of Netflix Mr. Reed Hastings was interviewed recently by The Hollywood Reporter on his company’s plans to expand into Canada. It seems they will be offering a cheaper plan there for streaming-only service than what is offered here in the U.S. When asked if he was concerned that U.S. customers might make a stir about this he had this to say: “How much has it been your experience that Americans follow what happens in the world? It’s something we’ll monitor, but Americans are somewhat self-absorbed.”
Yes, well thank you for your insight Mr. Hastings. Perhaps watching too much T.V. has made us “somewhat self-absorbed”. I plan to rectify this problem by watching less T.V. and not using your service anymore.
Asshole.

Wow! That’s really rude. But, as insulting as that is, I can’t bring myself to boycott. I love Netflix. $8.99 monthly Netflix membership; unlimited instant play movies plus movies delivered to my home; being able to pee then run to the kitchen to get homemade apple pie ala mode in my rattiest pajamas with out missing a moment of action: priceless. Hard to beat, even if the CEO of Netflix is a twatwaffle. Sorry, being cheap and hedonistic overrides pride.
I understand. I’ve been a subscriber for a couple years now and I love the service. Hell, I even got my parents signed up after months of prodding and they love it. I don’t do this lightly, but I’m sick of letting this kind of shit pass simply because I don’t want to inconvenience myself. Which is EXACTLY why this kind of shit keeps happening. Too many people have decided that there shouldn’t be any consequences for spewing anti-American sentiments. He did it casually and easily which means he meant it. I can’t do business with company that’s run by somebody with such a poisonous attitude towards his own customers.
I wish I was a subscriber so I too could fire them, Mitchell.
I’ve been a Netflix junkie for over 10 years, usually with the max plan, so there’s no way I’m going to boycott them. Fortunately I can rationalize it by noting that I don’t do the “streaming-only” plan.
They don’t offer the “streaming-only” plan in the U.S. Geoff. Which frankly makes that remark even more egregious. He had an easy, obvious answer to the question and he bypassed it for the smear. I told my parents about this incident and they’re canceling too.

*Sticks fingers in ears*
“Sticks and stones may break my bones…”
And he’s given over 200 grand to democrats.
