A Prayer to the Kiln Gods… October 2, 2008

O Kiln Gods!  I pray that my mugs pleased You and You found them worthy of Your blessings as they passed through the final baptism of Your fire in Your holy vessels.  May my glazes have fired true and runneth not to stick my wares onto Your shelves.

Amen.

I’ll post pictures of the results (good or ill) tonight.

How long do you cook ’em?

It depends on the clay and glaze types one is using McGoo. We’re using medium fire this semester so they go a bit quicker. I think they fired up the gas kiln Monday morning and unloaded it today. Glaze firings typically run anywhere from 6 to 12 hours at full temperature. It’s the getting up to full temperature and the cool-off that actually takes the most time.
