And it’s mine! My own! My…Preciousssssss! It was delivered unto me yesterday: The Shaft of shafts.
I ordered it last Saturday and I ponied up another 20 bucks for 2nd day air shipping. Sure enough it was out the door Monday morning and delivered at the office Wednesday morning. They packed it very well and it arrived in perfect condition and straight as a ruler. I brought my cue to work with me the last couple days so I could shoot som games after work and compare my original shaft with the new one.
First off, it fits perfectly on my Viking cue and assembled the whole thing is also perfectly straight. This was my second major concern about buying this thing online and not being able to test it out beforehand. Hell, I actually had a nightmare about this whole deal last weekend. Secondly, the standard Viking joint on the Predator shaft is black and happily the other half on the butt is also black so it isn’t readily apparent that I’ve got something of a Frankenstein cue going on and it looks beautiful.
One thing I was kinda surprised about though was how much more slender the Predator shaft was compared to my original. I knew it was going a little bit, but only by 1.25 mm according to the specifications. Frankly I didn’t really expect so see any significant difference, but boy was I wrong! Happily so, really. The one thing I didn’t like about the Viking cue was that the shaft always felt a little thick. The Z2 certainly solves that!
So, I know what you’re thinking: “This is all very well and good, but DOOOD you paid almost $300 for half a pool stick! Is it worth it?” This is rather presumptuous of you isn’t it?

Check it out – ribeye baby! Aww yeah:
It’s big too – a pound and a half beautiful bovinity begging for the searing kiss of cast iron. But, it has to wait for a bit. The stars are not quite in alignment. I’ll tell y’all how to prepare it to absolute perfection in a bit.
*****Later*****
Oh my. So good. I’m stuffed with steakiliciousness. I’ll tell you how to do it tomorrow.
I Want to Get The Shaft July 21, 2008

I want to get it long, hard, and straight. It’s been a while since I’ve thought about getting the shaft, and they’ve got a better one out there than the last time I looked. Unfortunately the particular shaft I’m interested in is no longer sold here in Las Vegas. This utterly astounds me. If there’s anyplace in the U.S. where you could get a shaft any time day or night it would be here. Or at least I thought so. I used to be able to get the shaft here, but that business shut down and it’s a fabric store now. I drove by yesterday to confirm the damage. Sad. Oh sure, I can still get the shaft online, but I wanted the more personal experience of getting the shaft in the old-fashioned brick & mortar place.
Hmmmmmmm. I looked around for other places to get the shaft. Phoenix, AZ seems to be the closest, but I’m not going to drive all that way just to get the shaft. Plus with fuel costs? That’s just crazy. The shaft is expensive enough as it is, and I’m not going to get shafted getting the shaft.
What? You’re tired of the “Shaft” innuendo? Already? I didn’t even get around to the obligigatory “Shaft” You-Tube post with the “They say this cat is a bad mother – SHUT YOUR MOUTH – I’m just talkin’ about Shaft! – I can dig it!” line! Yah OK. I just worked it in without the actual you-tube video. You know what? After watching the intro credits I’m pretty certain now that I’ve never actually watched an episode of “Shaft”. Eh, whatever.
Behold the Shaft: A Predator Z²! That would be a new shaft for my pool cue. And, yeah, they cost around 300 bucks with a tip upgrade at full retail. Dogpiling around the interwebberytubes it seems that I can get one between $247 and $266. Ahhhhh, still so pricey though. And I’ve never even played with one. But I waaaaaaaants it!!
I’ve signed up for a 9-ball pool league that starts up next week, hence my reawakened interest in upgrading my equipment. When I bought my current Viking cue a few years ago I picked up a nice case for it too and it has a space for a second shaft. It’s like this cue was destined to have two shafts for it doesn’t it? Who can stand in the way of Destiny right?

The web-filter thingy at work now blocks one of my favorite blogs: Stoaty Weasel! This is a black day indeed. For some reason the filter deems dame Weasel’s site to be “Tasteless”. WTF?? That’s so wrong on so many levels, I don’t even know where to start. 😦
Lunch surfing is now at least 20% less fun than it used to be.

WHOOT!! WHOOT!!!
Yes! The community college is finally offering a ceramics course at night for the fall semester and I GOT THE LAST SPOT! It’s been about two years since they last offered a night class for this course and I’ve been dying to get my hands in clay again.
I’ve already had Ceramics 1 though, so I’ll just be auditing it. I intend to mostly focus on handbuilding stuff this time rather than throwing on the wheel, and I want to try some Steampunk designs & elements. Ahh, my mind’s already abuzz.
This class has an instructor I’ve never had before, so I’m looking forward to learning some new stuff from her.
