Back to Work, In Excel Hell October 30, 2007

It’s that time of year again where I get to look at hundreds of Excel spreadsheets and hundreds of thousands of little, fiddly numbers where I get to decide which ones get bolded and which ones do not. I shitteth thee not they pay me to do this.
I nicked this grapic from the late, great Dave at Garfield Ridge site.

Have those TPS reports ready.
Oh, and I’m gonna have to go ahead and have you come in on Saturday mmmkay?
Didn’t you get the memo? It’s Hawaiian shirt day.
If you chose at random, would anyone notice?
Oh yes! We’re looking for very specific types of numbers in all this. I wrote a program to highlight likely suspects and to go ahead and bold very likely suspects. I still have to run eyeballs over all of it though. All of this is in preparation for a series of detailed analyses that I get to run afterwards. This time is extra special because now we have a lot people interested in our results. Yay! More scrutiny!
