It’s Too Soon September 12, 2006

Note to grocery store chains – It’s.Too.Soon!

Stop it.  It’s not even mid-September!  Really this stuff started popping out right after Labor Day even.  Take it down and put it away until October.  ALL OF IT!!  Yes, all the cobwebbing, the spiders, the bats, rats, “spooky” Dr. Shivers full-sized-talking-sort-of-animatronic-dude.  ALL of the Halloween stuff!  Yeah, I know you’ve splurged a lot on the candy budget and you’ve got to move the product – it’s still too soon.  Market the appropriate holiday stuff in the appropriate season please!

Oh, and if I see a Santa Claus on ANYTHING before this month is out someone is gonna have to learn how it feels to squeeze that item out in the bathroom the next day.

Fair warning.

I noticed that, too. We will probably be seeing Cadbury Easter Eggs by Thanksgiving.

I like it. Keeps me from focusing on the “now.” Keeps me from being “in the moment.” Life’s all about tomorrow.

Being in this distribution – logistics thing, I can tell you that the Christmas stuff is out two weeks before Halloween.

Easter candy (Pasqua, as my friends in Brazil call it) is in the pipeline by Dec 20.

It could be worse. Step into your local Costco right now and chances are you’ll be greeted by a couple of Christmas aisles. Yep. You read that right. 😦

Interestingly, even in a meduim small sized town in Texas, I do not recall local stores running out of Christmas stuff. Pretty good fill rates. But it does mean you see it sooner.

NO! No Christmas stuff yet!! GAH!
